RENUNCIATION OF INDIAN CITIZENSHIP/SURRENDER OF INDIAN PASSPORT

Government of India does not allow dual citizenship. An Indian national who wishes to acquire nationality of other country must renounce his/her Indian citizenship.

For acquiring the nationality of a foreign country, an Indian national must renounce their Indian citizenship as follows:

(a) Persons 18 years and Above – An application for Renunciation of Indian Citizenship should be made if wants to renounce the Indian Citizenship based on the Citizenship Guarantee Letter (Ein­bürgerungs­zu­sicherung).

An application for Surrender of Indian Passport should be made based on the Citizenship Letter (Einbürgerungsurkunde), if already acquired the foreign citizenship.

(b) Persons below 18 years – An application for Surrender of Indian Passports should be made.

1. Duly filled online application at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce (Sign the application form in front of the Consular Officer. On the second page of the application form, obtain the signature of the person vouching for the correctness of your details. The person vouching for you must be an Indian citizen).

2. Original Indian Passport of the applicant (latest).

3. Self-attested copies of current and previous Indian passports (front and last pages) of the applicant.

4. Self-attested copy of the proof of Address in Germany.

5. Self-attested copy of the Residence Permit/ID Card.

6. Self-attested copy of the Citizenship Guarantee Letter.

7. Self-attested copy of the German Passport (If already obtained).

8. Self-attested copy of the valid Indian passport of the person who are vouching the correctness of your application.

9. Payment of €90.00. Applicants have to pay at the Counter of Consulate.

10. A prepaid self-addressed A4 size envelope with postage stamps of €4.25 affixed on it to send the Certificate by Registered Post.

NOTE:

(i) If the last Indian passport is not available with the applicant, they should obtain a letter from the concerned German authorities, to whom they had submitted their passport, stating the location of the passport. This letter should be obtained before submitting the application at the Consulate.

(ii) Applicants have to bring all the originals documents for verification.

(iv) Status of the application can be checked at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce.

1. Duly filled online application form at https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html. (Parents have to sign the application).

2. Two recent photographs of the applicant, measuring 5 x 5 cm, with a white background.

3. Original Indian Passport of the applicant (latest).

4. A self-attested copy of the last Indian passport (front and last pages) of the applicant.

5. A self-attested copy of the proof of address in Germany.

6. A self-attested copy of the Residence permit of the applicant.

7. Self-attested copies of the passports (front and last pages) and Residence permits/ID Cards of the parents.

8. A self-attested copy of the Citizenship Guarantee letter.

9. Payment of €22.00. Applicants have to pay at the Counter of Consulate.

10. A prepaid self-addressed A4 size envelope with postage stamps of €4.25 affixed on it to send the Certificate by Registered Post.

NOTE:
